I got back from my amazing trip to Asia a couple weeks ago. I would have posted sooner, but it's amazing how much piles up when you're gone for a month! Somehow, even my clean house got dirty (a pesky layer of dust covered just about everything - eeew!). Anyway, take a peek! I have some of my favorite memories posted below.

This is a journey that has been in the making for nearly ten years. When I was eleven, I got the opportunity to visit my mom's home country of Malaysia. While I admit I was a totally snotty kid at the time and had a rough time getting over the culture shock, I came to appreciate the experience as an adult. It really set me up to be open to new and different things, as my mom would say. This trip was pretty amazing. My husband and I got to take a short four day trip to Rendang island, which was amazing. Taking a bus trip across the country was an unforgettable experience, as was this beautiful island in the picture above.

This market was busier than Costco on Sunday.

I have been meaning to make the trip back as an adult, but never could due to time or money. This year though, I just decided that we were going no matter what. My mom's side of the family has never met my husband, and we've been together for ten years at this point (married for five). I figured it was time!

Travelling from location to location was a really cool experience, and something that most Americans can't imagine doing here for long distance travel anymore: taking the bus! When I was a kid, I took a round trip Greyhound bus from Washington to Colorado, and I can't even begin to tell you how unpleasant it was. Bathrooms didn't work on the buses, and lots of the bus stations felt like very sketchy places if you weren't careful. But it's a much different deal in Malaysia. The buses don't actually have bathrooms on them, which at first seems like a problem, but when you take into account that the bus drivers have planned stops, and you can always request a bathroom break, it's not an issue at all. One thing you definitely miss out on when you take a plane is the countryside - and in Malaysia it's breathtaking. We got to see much more than I did when I went as a kid, and as you can see, this method of travel was so worth it!

A sweet and frothy drink called teh tarik. It literally means "pull tea".

Next to the stellar hospitality offered from my wonderful family (many of whom I had never met, and most of whom I haven't seen in over 20 years!), my fondest memories will always come from the food. I wish I had taken more pictures! The curries, veggies, fruits, and desserts are totally unbelievable. I actually came home with a million bags of spices to try and recreate some of the flavors. One of my personal favorites are the drinks. The picture shown above is a sweet concoction of aromatic black tea and sweetened condensed milk, and it is absolutely divine. Although it was always around 80+ degrees, there is something kind of comforting about having a cup of teh tarik at a food stall early in the morning. I'm so glad I finally got to go. In fact I'm already looking into planning my next trip ;)

Out of town

I'll be out of town for about a month, from June 24 - July 26th. The site will be open and orders can be placed during that time, but please note that I will not be able to fill or ship any orders until I return.

I am very excited about my upcoming trips. I think the last time I successfully got my husband to take a month off was when we were in our early 20's and we had the opportunity to backpack across Europe for a few weeks. This vacation is going to be just as awesome, and I am so excited. First we're going to be in LA for a friend's wedding, and from there we are going to Malaysia to see my mom's half of the family (I haven't been back for almost 20 years!), and to finish it off we are spending a week in Hong Kong. I haven't really done much international travel in the last ten years, so this trip is going to be amazing!

I Like it Rough

Amethyst has had an almost hypnotic effect on me lately. I can't seem to get enough purple! When I saw these rough and tumble stones, I just had to get a strand. Edgy and vibrant, these stones seemed perfect for rings.

This raw amethyst ring is part of my Spring / Summer 2010 collection. The stones are pretty substantial, so this ring is not for the faint of heart. I love it though, and tend to match it up with cool and flowy bohemian summer dresses. Also available in sterling silver (shown in gold-filled) for those of you that don't go for the gilded.

Spring / Summer 2010 Jewelry

It's finally done - the entire Spring / Summer 2010 line is now available on my site!

I've been playing a lot with asymmetry lately, and the asymmetric amethyst necklace above is one of my favorite pieces. I managed to find an amazing new supplier in Chicago for some gorgeous gemstones, which is where I found the amethyst that is featured here. Each bead on the strand I procured was shaped differently, so every one of these necklaces is going to be unique.

I think my favorite thing about these beads is that the front and the back have a unique shape from each another. Shown here is what I call the back - the gem is cut in a slightly stepped pyramid style. The other side is equally cool - it's flatter, and looks more like your standard cut gem.

I love that it can be worn either way. I made the piece a little more eclectic by flanking the focal gem with beautiful champagne pearls, twist cut labradorite beads, and finished it off with a roped peach moonstone drop and sleeping beauty turquoise drop. It's become a staple in my jewelry box :)

A lovely lariat + more new jewelry

Here is a little peek at one of the newest additions on the site, a cool iridescent champagne and navy crystal lariat. This is an interesting piece because it combines the luxury of the crystal with the more organic element of ecru waxed cotton cord. The lariat is about 40" long, and can be worn long, doubled up like a scarf in a couple different ways, or even as a belt. I always love a little versatility :)

One of the things I love most about this piece is the detailing. I've used a couple different varieties of twisted wire to give the impression of metal roping. I was inspired by a cute little sailboat I saw in the northwest while visiting my parents last fall.

I've always wanted to sail, but have never gotten the chance, so this lariat is my homage to all those lovely sea-faring adventures I've always heard about. Hopefully one day I get to experience it for myself!

Above is a pair of roped plump pink quartz drops, one of the new additions this weekend. As much as I love to dramatic look of big, bold earrings, I've been focusing on more casual daytime looks lately. There is just something to be said for sweet and simple.

Wow, it really has been forever, hasn't it? I hate to say it but I've had such a hard time keeping up with everything since the big move from Phoenix to Chicago. My creative juices kind of went dry for a while, so I figured I would take a little hiatus. It turned out to be a little longer than I intended though :) I'm feeling more grounded these days, so hopefully things are getting back to normal.

I've been busy in the meantime though. School has started (biology, sociology and German) and so far it's going very well! Hopefully I'll be transferring soon. I'm also very excited because there are some weddings coming up this year - my cousin and a good friend. I'm actually going on a cruise in about a month to Encinitas for a few days with my cousins for a pre-wedding party, and I am so excited! I've never been on a cruise before, and it will be fantastic to get out of the Chicago winter for a few days.

I've also been getting back into designing again. I've been working on photo shoots and editing, so there will be some fantastic updates for the website for Spring 2010! I have been working with a lot of fantastic stones, bright colors, and asymmetry in this collection. I'll be posting a little sneak peek soon. I'll be adding things in the next couple weeks. Until then!

I hope you all had a great week. Things have been pretty busy for me. Aside from the two giveaways that concluded (I will name the info and winners in just a few), I'm volunteering at a local community center as a mentor and finally got to meet my mentee this week, which was really cool.

I also had a fund raising and awards dinner to attend this Wednesday with my husband at the Chicago Cultural Center, which is worth checking out if you're ever in town. Our event was in Preston Bradley Hall, which has amazing white marble walls with stunning blue and green colorful mosaic inlay patterns. The most gorgeous part was this awesome Tiffany Dome, which is constructed of what has to be hundreds of small but colorful Tiffany glass tiles. It was so beautiful, and quite awe inspiring.

I also updated the site a bit with some new products! I found some cool Murano glass specimens a while back, and thought they would be perfect for spring. These black and white swirling glass earrings are a particular favorite of mine.

Ring in Spring!

Designs for Spring '09 are here! I'm am so happy to finally update my site. Things have been so crazy since the move (see previous post), but thankfully things are smoothing out and getting back to normal. The new city is fantastic, and inspiring me in so many ways. We had an unseasonably warm day today - nearly 80 degrees! This was a huge surprise, especially considering we had temperatures in the low 20's last week. While I did get out for a walk this afternoon, I didn't let the warm weather stop me from getting new jewelry on my site!

This Spring I wanted to focus on interesting and refreshing details in my stones and metal work, and I was inspired by the seriously fantastical materials I have come across over the last few months. I have been scouring my sources for the most luscious, colorful finds to introduce for spring, and am so happy with the results. As always, here are a few of my favorite things!
I am absolutely in love with this beautiful step cut chrysoprase ring! I found a stunning strand of unusual step cut chrysoprase nuggets, and had to create this gorgeous ring. Each nugget is free form, so each handcrafted ring remains unique. Another plus? While it is shown in sterling silver, it is also available in gold-filled.
This cool, asymmetrical smooth smoky quartz chip ring another one of my favorites. I love the ensuing effect when combining free form stones together. This almost reminds me of a dark flame, or dark natural crystal formation.
Another favorite is this truly stunning lapiz lazuli nugget ring. Back in November, I came across a really amazing graduated strand of faceted lapiz lazuli nuggets, and had to get it. Because the strand is graduated, there are only about four beads that can be used for rings. I haven't decided what else I'm using the remaining beads for yet, but check back. You're likely to see more of this heriloom quality lapiz in my store this Spring or Summer!
I love a simple idea with subtle embellishments, and these lovely mystic pink quartz earrings speak to that idea. I have gotten in the habit of handcrafting my own earwires over the last year, and have added a slight scrolling detail for the drops to suspend from. One of the other things I love about these earrings is the sparkle - it's tough to distinguish in the photo, but there is actually an iridescence to the stone which is quite beautiful.

And last but not least, you may notice a trend of bold, black onyx and agate jewelry on the site. It's somewhat of a continuation from Fall that I wanted to expand on. Spring is full of bright colors this year, and black is a fantastic way to anchor some of the brightness. I love these black agate pillow cut earrings. I found the shape to be so unique, and very graphic.

Now that things have settled, I'll be adding more jewelry to the site as time goes by. I have some fun new designs in store, and I can't wait to share them.

one extreme to the other

I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year! I know it has been a while since my last post, and figured an update was in order. Let me start off by saying the last few months have been a pretty serious whirlwind of non-stop action, hence the belated update. My husband and I took a sudden, fairly crazy leap of faith, and decided that our time in Phoenix had run its course. Where did we end up, you ask? The Windy City: Chicago, Illinois!
We both have been quite enamored with the city for years in fact, since we started dating actually. It's hard to believe that was almost nine years ago already! Anyway, we have always wanted to make it our home. There is just something about this city that draws us in, and makes us really happy. I love being able to walk places again, and have access to round the clock public transportation. Not to mention, Phoenix was just too hot for us. While I admit, the winters could be nice, they weren't worth the summers for us. We were there for a few years, and neither one of us could get acclimated to that heat. This is our first winter here, and I've heard it's the coldest Chicago has had in the last 15 years or so. I got my first taste of sub-zero temperatures last week, and I have to say they weren't too bad. Our gas bill on the other hand, that's a different story ;)

In Fall Effect - Fall Line Now Available!

The last week has been a busy one. I've been spending my time getting everything together for the Fall Collection, and I'm happy to announce that it is now available online. This season, I focused on showcasing gemstones that possess particularly unique cuts or qualities.

Take these beautiful long and lean onyx drop earrings, for example. I found them at the Tuscon Gem Show this year, and immediately loved their uniquely long length (about 1" long) and their super chic, slender shape. From your favorite little black dress to a more casual look of jeans and a cute top, they'll work with just about anything.

This cool tourmalinated quartz necklace is another favorite from my fall collection. I was lucky enough to find these absolutely gorgeous, very large (approx 1") faceted tourmalinated quartz drops at a local supplier, and "wrapped" the top in sterling silver rope. Then I paired the roped drop with some very cool heavy chain. It's difficult to see the chain detail, but each link has a beautiful fine texture to it. I have one of these necklaces myself, and it's such a versatile piece. I get compliments on it all the time! Oh, I guess I should note that there is only one left.

Going Green

I had the pleasure of finding some beautiful chrysoprase beads recently at one of my favorite bead shops here in Phoenix. This gem in particular can be hard to find, so I was quite happy to come across such lovely specimens. These graduated nuggets were really an amazing find. They are so smooth to the touch and are of great quality. And let's not forget the tell tale bright electric green hue, which I absolutely love.

A quick tip about this stone; despite its bright and vivacious color, it is surprisingly versatile. I've found that it works well on many skin tones, so I was very pleased to have the chance to work with it again. I have always heard that this stone stimulates creativity, and I have to say I think that is true. After my purchase, I happily brought them back to my studio and experimented a bit. Check out the results below:

First up we have the necklace. I paired gems with vermeil beads I acquired at the Tucson Gem Show this year and I finished the design off with a textured vermeil toggle clasp. The pairing of these decadent stones with gold is just so gorgeous that I opted for gold again in my next piece.

Here, we have an endlessly chic bracelet. I offset the chrysoprase with textured diamond and circle links and added a large lobster style clasp. The large stone in the middle is a very pure green, with hardly any surface inclusions. Seriously, these stones are just decadent!

As always, you can find each item on my web site. In general, everything in my shop is produced in very limited quantities, but these pieces in particular are a little different. Since I only was able to purchase a single strand of these beads, these items are distinctly one-of-a-kind.

Translation: If you love it, don't wait! I don't think they'll be around too long.

On the off chance that they are around for a while, well then, I'll just have to make room in my personal stash ;)

Well, I have to say, it's nice to be back. I had a such a nice and productive break from blogging over the last few months. School was particularly crazy this semester, which is what put the blog on hold. I ended up doing great, though. While I did manage to give myself a short break after finals, I started work on a complete site redesign for my jewelry boutique. This is a project that I've been thinking about it for a while, and am pretty happy with the results. Check it out for yourself right here.The redesign made it possible for me to add some cool new features. One of my favorites is the Seasonal Style Guide, which is a page that showcases my favorite jewelry for the current season. The pictures posted here showcase a couple designs featured in the guide. From top to bottom, we have my lapis lazuli and inverted vermeil fan earrings, and the raw citrine trio necklace. Another cool feature on the site is the Gemstone Almanac, a useful guide to the beautiful gems and stones used in my jewelry. Along with the colors and general aesthetics of the stones, I've also included some information on the mystical properties of gemstones, their history, and birthstone info.

Some of you may have also noticed some new decor right here, as well! I was inspired to change things up a bit when I was finished with my site redesign. Along with my visual updates for the blog, I'm changing the overall focus for things here, too.

Instead of the generalized product review blog of the past, I am going to be experimenting with a more personal and creative flavor here. I want to write about the creative process of my work, and how it fits into my life. From inspiration, to design and creation, expect to read posts about my life as a designer. Of course, since I'm in an exploratory phase, I may detract from time to time. In any case, I'll try to post updates twice a month or so. We'll just see what works. In the meantime, thanks for reading :)

Just thought I'd let you all know that I am on Spring Break for the week! I'm heading out to Chi-town for a little fun in the.... wind and snow? Everyone here in AZ thinks I'm crazy, but I have to say, I love Chicago. I'm looking forward to public transportation, tall buildings, and the ability to drink until 4am ;) As nice as the desert is right now, I have to say I'm just of the belief that wearing flip flops in March is just weird. I want some cold weather! That said, I'm sure I'm heading the right place.

Coveted Coral

Ok, ok, so I know I missed posting last week. But I promise today's post will make up for it. I am a huge fan of coral, and managed find some absolutely stunning coral drops at the gem show. Each one is about 1" in length, and they are of the highest quality I have ever encountered. I've been dying to include them in some designs, and finally had a few spare moments last week. Here are the results!

Faceted peachy pink coral drop earrings with vermeil disc bead and handcrafted ear wires.

Divine polished white coral and sleeping beauty turquoise lariat on delicate drawn cable chain.

Smooth and sweet red coral pendant with leaf detail on long figure eight chain.

Now I have to admit - it will probably be a while before these (and the previous entries) will make it on to the site. Hopefully, everything will be added sometime this month. Sneak Peek - Clover Iolite Drops

I came across these stunning clover-shaped mother of pearl beads, and decided to mix them with some amazing vermeil drops that I hand wrapped with faceted iolite beads. I just love the results. Sneak Peek - Lotus Love

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a fab weekend - I know I did! I had the pleasure of attending the Tucson Gem Show, and came back with some serious booty. Along with today's sneak peek, expect a mini-series of the next couple weeks or so. I've been feverishly making jewelry out of my spoils for the last day (instead of doing homework, of course), and I just had such a hard time picking favorites that I'm going to share a bunch!

Above is something I think I am keeping in my own stash - it's a necklace on heavy silver chain that features a super sweet carved pink chancedony lotus pendant. The colors on the strand that I got vary in size a tiny bit, but they're about 3/4" long and 1" wide or so, give or take. Each pendant will also vary in color slightly. Some are a little more pink, some more purple - but all are perfectly lovely!

6 Legged Chic

Sorry for the crazy late post this week - this semester school is getting a little nuts and I am finding that I barely have time for my usual routines! Hopefully things will be getting better. I'm getting used to my professors, and am adjusting what I do to try and work it out. Now that that's been said, on with my lustworthy find for the week.

While I should totally have been spending time doing homework, I unexpectedly found myself persuing Barney's and found this perfectly delectable necklace from designer Anna Ruth Henriques. It featurs a lovely pendant crafted from crystal, mother pearl, and 18K gold, with a surprisingly chic offset insect detailing. Pure loveliness.

Water never looked so good

Instead of grabbing a bottled water every time you need a sip of H2O, why not take advantage of a reusable water bottle? I'm totally guilty of tossing empty bottles of water all the time, but I'm pretty sure that I could break the habit. Especially after I discovered this super cool water bottle from SIGG. Nothing beats fashionable and functional, right?

Sneak Peek - Blue Bell Necklace

I figured I'd go with a sneak peek today since I haven't done one in a while. A few weeks ago, I took a day trip out to the Quartzsite Gem Show, and I found these super cool carved turquoise magnesite flower beads and thought that they would be a fabulous focal piece for an opera length necklace on fine rope chain. Along with some other lovely items, this week I will be adding this carved blue bell flower necklace to the site. And for those of you who aren't huge fans of gold, you are most certainly in luck. I will also be adding a sterling silver version as well.

Crystal Comforts

Hello everyone, and a belated Happy New Year! I hope your festivities were more eventful than mine. I was up in Portland, Oregon with the full intent of attending a Prince vs. Michael Jackson DJ battle to ring in the new year, but unfortunately my plans were foiled. My husband and I ended up with the flu. At the very least, though, we camped out in style in our fabulous room at The RiverPlace Hotel and watched bad TV and had room service. What more can you ask for? Besides tissues, that is ;)
So let's get down to it, then, shall we? I began gathering a nice collection of interesting crystal beads a while ago, and ended up with several gorgeous pieces. After getting back from vacation, I finally added them to the site. A particular favorite is this lush and long sterling silver necklace that features a purely voluptuous faceted crystal drop pendant. The necklace itself it 30" long, and the pendant is about 1" x 3/4". I just love it! It goes with anything, and will always have a place in my personal collection. Simply put, this piece rocks!

I have a short, double breasted wool coat with cropped, loose sleeves that I love wearing, but my poor forearms have had to bear the cold for fashion's sake. The perfect solution? Long gloves! This pair from Michael Kors will definitely fit the bill. My forearms will thanks me, I'm sure :)

This year has been brutal in the desert. The grueling 90 degree weather finally cooled down right around Thanksgiving. Rock Band

I hope everyone had a nice vacation! I know I did. My husband and I drove out to see his family in LA, and made sure to bring along the XBox 360, and the newly released game Rock Band with us. I don't even think I can be considered a "gamer" by any stretch of the word, but this game is seriously addicting. Up to four people can play in the "band" (drummer, singer, lead guitar, and bassist), but be ready to have a serious monster jam session. Last Friday night, we went over to my brother-in-law's house, and the four of us ended up playing for about six or seven hours straight. Get your wallet ready though - for the game bundle that has the guitar, drum kit, and mic, it was about $170 or so, and that only includes one guitar. If you don't have a guitar for Guitar Hero already, it's another $60 or so for a second guitar controller so four people can play.

My New Set Up

I am so stoked - I ordered a new camera from Costco! It's a Canon Powershot SD850, and it seriously rocks. My husband and I have had the same old Canon Powershot S45 since... oh, I'd say 2002 or so. Needless to say, we were working with some rather outdated technology. The S45 was actually what I had been using for my web site photos. While this was a great camera that did technically met our photographic needs, we decided it was time for an upgrade!

Because their return policy is unrivaled, (no questions asked returns available until 90 days after purchase, and no restocking fee), we chose to buy it from Costco. They usually offer a better value because they generally include extras of some sort. In this case, we got an extra 2 GB SD card - which is a very nice improvement over the 32 MB it typically comes with. Anyway, after (im)patiently waiting for two days, it arrived on Wednesday last week. Upon receipt, I immediately did some test shots of some new items yet to be added on the site. Check out the results below!

Not bad, eh? I actually also got some other cool accouterments to help me out on the photography front - a light tent, and a couple studio lamps. You can check out the kit right here. I love the new set up! It's quick and easy to set up and take down, and everything can be stored easily and doesn't take up a ton of space. Pictures are crisp with more detail and less shadow which, in turn, means that less post production work is required. It's a huge time-saver. Another bonus? I get to provide my clients with better images! Now what could be better than that?

I've always been fascinated with the mysterious allure of a crescent moon - so much so that I decided to use it as inspiration for this piece. Happy Friday! I'm deviating a little bit from the normal routine today. I thought I'd share a hysterical blog I came across yesterday aptly titled Hello, Cherie? For the last twelve years, the author has claimed the screen name Cherie at AOL. For some reason though, she is constantly mistaken for the other Cheries of the world, and is barraged on a regular basis with PMs and e-mails from people thinking that she is their Cherie. The really weird thing is that once she informs them that they have the wrong person, they are surprisingly insistent that she is wrong. It's really the weirdest thing, but actually quite entertaining at the same time. It's also very worth checking out!

One of the best presents I've ever gotten has been a fully loaded picnic basket. Much like this picnic basket from Williams-Sonoma, it came with plates, silverware, napkins, glasses and stemware. This one is actually a bit cooler - literally. It actually comes equipped with an insulated food cooler and an insulated wine tote. It's really the only way to enjoy a sophisticated, impromptu outdoor meal. While it might be a bit hot for a picnic in the desert, the early fall weather should be perfect for an intimate little gathering in other parts of the world.

Right now I'm growing my hair out, and I think I might be going crazy. I can't stand the short to long transition period. It's just so tough to look really put together. My hair is really fine and smooth, and it's not quite long enough for a ponytail or anything else just yet. My solution for now? Headbands! I especially love this crystal studded patent navy leather headband from Cara Couture. The color and details are so cool and modern! It might just be the perfect thing to get me through my last few months of transition hair.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I am a self-proclaimed lip balm addict. I just can't stop - especially during the gruelling summers here in the southwest. I have to say though, I've always preferred balms that give my lips a little protection from the sun. On a recent trip to Sephora to pick up a few items, I came across Sugar Lip Balm from Fresh. When I saw the SPF 15 rating in huge letters on the side of the box, I had to test it. It's a little lemony, and exquisitely moisturizing. I also love the matte coppery twist tube. Not surprisingly, it's the newest addition to my vast arsenal of balm.

Check out my newest creations, just added to the site this weekend! These gorgeous jewel encrusted bangles are perfectly chic, and look amazing worn alone or piled on. They're just about 67mm-70mm in diameter, but just in case, I've included a little handmade s-clasp to ensure a hassle-free fit.

I have to say that I think this is one of the most exceptional and original items I've found since the blog started back in February. These lust-worthy wedding invites from Olso Press are custom laser engraved and crafted from fine veneers with gorgeous paper accents. I have to say, I love my own wedding invites (in fact, I still have the box with a few extras in it sitting in my home office), but these are just amazing. Sneak Peek - Versatile Hoops

OK, I know I posted about some hoops last week, but I had to do it again. Ever since I made the gunmetal hoops, I've been thinking about infusing a little more silver into my accessories and here are the results!
These cool hoops are a generous 50mm in diameter (about 2 inches), and they seriously go with everything! They're a great size, and can be dressed up or down. Not surprisingly, they've managed to sneak their way into my own stash. I should be able to add them to the site this week.

My first interview!

I was interviewed a few weeks ago by Stephanie Armenta of Your Essential Style, widely known as YES. This development has been so exciting! I've been a faithful reader since my arrival to AZ two years ago, and it's an amazing feeling to be featured as their Designer of the Week.

The images to the right are just a few of the items that showed up in the print version, which also had a picture of me as well.

Hi everyone! Sorry there's no actual post today. I was able to have another amazing day of vacation in the White Lakes area of Minnesota, and had to take it. Will be back for real posts tomorrow, but until then, check out a few of my favorite images from the trip.
I got these images from the deck of the cabin. The first is just a perspective shot of the cool benches they had outside, and in the second you can see the view of the dock. I got to ride a jet ski for the first time, which was so awesome! Although, I think I'm a certified wuss. I don't think I went over 40 mph, while my husband was racing around at 70 mph! We also took a couple spectacular boat rides.
My hosts had gorgeous hydrangeas surrounding the cabin! I've always loved these delicate blooms. I used some in my wedding a couple years ago, so they hold a lot of sentimental value for me.I hate to say it, but this guy is for target practice! Honestly, I just thought he was really cute so I couldn't resist a getting a picture. I did see a ton of real deer, though. I even got to see two fawns! So cute. Aside from the deer, I saw loads of loons, ducks, and had a bald eagle swoop in over me. That was really cool.
Ok, this is the last one, I promise. I really liked the look of this single wine rack. I figured I had to mention something about wines because we enjoyed some really nice bottles during the trip.

I have to say, I was sad to leave! Minnesota was a fabulous vacation from the heat here in Phoenix. But that's it for now - regular posts will resume tomorrow!

Right now in the desert, Monsoon Season is starting. In a moments notice, torriential rain rainpour falls, lightning lights up the sky, and you better not wear any nice shoes outside. Quite frankly, I can't wait until it's over! I found these Jeffrey Campbell booties at Zappos, and I am dying to get a pair. Grey is going to be big for fall, and these edgy, sexy booties will sport the trend nicely.

Who can resist a single piece of fabric that expands the possibilities of your wardrobe ten-fold? Personally, I have a huge weakness for this kind of thing. While I'm still undecided on the color I want, I've had the opportunity to try it out and am definitely picking one up for fall.

Happy Monday!

It's my birthday today, so I thought I'd deviate from the norm and post about my cool and exciting presents. From my husband? Drum lessons! I have become interested in them in the last year or so, and he thought it would be a fun present. I'm happy to report that he was right! I've done a few lessons already (I had to start early due to my instructors tour dates), and am having a blast!!! It's so fun. And aside from my instructor being a great teacher, he also does a mean Speak 'n Spell impression.

I also got a completely unintentional, but super cool birthday present from Kalmbach Publishing. Last year, I submitted an instructional article to Bead and Button magazine on how to make a pair of cool, bohemian style hoop earrings, which showed up in the August 2006 issue. Totally cool in and of itself, but the editors selected the tutorial to appear in the book Creative Beading Vol. 2. Below is a variation of the project that appears in the book.
The book showcases the best projects over the year from the magazine. While my project in particular is relatively quick and easy, there are some really beautiful projects for every skill level. I recieved my complimentary copy over the weekend, and my Boho Hoops project shows up on page 20. Cool, I'm published!

New Fave Fragrance

I've found my new signature perfume! In Two by Stella McCartney. There are two versions of this fragrance, Amber and Peony, which are actually meant to be layered. While I haven't actually tried the two together, I am absolutely smitten with the Peony scent. It seems to last for hours, and works well with my particular chemistry. With notes of peony and black pepper, it's just heavenly!

Sneak Peek - More Luscious Turquoise

Well, folks, I think I have to admit it. I have a problem. I'm hopelessly addicted. My vice? Sleeping beauty turquoise. It started off innocently, with a single strand of 3mm beads, which I used for hoop earrings and a pendant. Then I got two. Just last week though, I purchased a strand of undeniably luscious, vibrant and substantial 10mm beads. Below you'll find a couple images of my most recent creations.
Once again, both pairs have made the little journey into my personal jewelry box. Big surprise there, right? I've found these earrings to be really fabulous and versatile. They can be dressed up or dressed down accordingly, and the compliments I get when I wear them out are endless. The color of the gem is pure and bright, with no veins of black or anything else marring the surface. These are really heirloom grade gems.

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm always really excited when I come across something that I've never seen before. A good example? These quirky wall vases. As you can see, they come in a couple different sizes, and also are available with the design in a slate blue color. My Austrian German isn't that great, but it looks like there's a few variations on the print as well.

I haven't shopped at Old Navy in about a million years, but last night I got the opportunity to check out a store opening in my area. While I was there, I found these cute little silk/cotton blend lounge shorts for only $12.50. Why post about it? First off, I love the print. Second, they are actually machine washable! You can't really go wrong.

I've actually been looking for a replacement for quite a while a while now, but recently came across these cool, yet understated sandals from Michael Kors. I just love the minimal Greek thing they have going for them, not to mention the faux wood insole. They're a great find, and should work with everything. Score!

Green Amethyst Earrings

Happy Monday, everyone! I just got done updating the website with these new green amethyst drop earrings. I have to say that they are some of the most gorgeous specimens I have ever seen. These beauties are marquise cut, and of the absolute highest quality. I picked them up back in January at a trade show, and finally got around to using them.

The gems are hanging from fine flat cable chain inside hand formed and hammered drop frames, and also have my handmade ear wires. I've found that they are quite versatile as well. The pale green color is especially complimentary to brights blues and pinks, but looks amazing with black, too.

I don't think I've ever used the term "cool" to describe a cleaning tool before, but it just seemed appropriate for this uncharacteristically chic dustpan. This thing is just too hip to hide away in your broom closet though, I'd use it as funky wall decor instead. Several different graphics available.
